“Yahi, sweetheart, has anyone ever told you that your confident look is beautiful?”
Yahi Bern’s eyes sparkled, and his entire being shone with excitement. Unlike before, when he struggled to maintain an appearance of purity, his newfound confidence outshone everything in the world.
“No, you are the first person to compliment me like that.” Yahi Bern gazed at Shuichang with a smile, his pink lips moving closer, quickly kissing the corner of Shuichang’s mouth, “Thank you for the compliment; that’s a reward.”
Shuichang’s eyes darkened with desire as he leaned over Yahi Bern, warm breaths washing over his ear, “Baby, I have a trove of compliments to shower you with; I could talk all night about it. I’m just asking for a reward.”
“Umm—” Yahi Bern was cut off as Shuichang silenced him with a kiss, their lips and tongues intertwining passionately.
“Yahi, your eyes are more beautiful than the Dreamwei Lake.”
“Be gentle—”
“Your skin is like fine white jade, warm and smooth to the touch.”
“Too fast, mmm, Douglas—”
“And your golden hair, shimmering like the most beautiful satin in the sunlight.”
Shuichang picked up the pace, which stirred Yahi Bern into gasping breaths.
The next morning, while Yahi Bern was still asleep, Shuichang dressed him and carried him into a carriage, leaving the town of Krumlov.
As they traveled west, Yahi Bern woke to find they had crossed the boundaries of the Saint Roderick Empire. The sun hung high in the sky, casting warm rays that made one feel drowsy.
Peeking through the curtain, Yahi Bern squinted as his eyes adjusted to the brightness, “Douglas, where are we?”
Shuichang halted the carriage and helped Yahi Bern sit beside him, “We’ve left the Saint Roderick Empire; this is the border of the Ilan Empire.”
As Yahi Bern got out, he felt a twinge in his waist and almost fell. Shuichang lifted him into his arms, his palm stroking Yahi Bern’s lower back, “Sore waist?”
Yahi Bern nodded, “I don’t know why, but aside from my sore waist, I feel terrible all over.”
Shuichang sensed something was off, “Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten what happened last night?”
Yahi Bern looked puzzled, “We were chatting, and I accidentally fell asleep. What else could have happened?”
Shuichang gently began to massage him but halted at his words, his hands moving to the areas that had been overexerted.
“You’ve forgotten last night, huh? I don’t mind helping you recall the memories.”
Yahi Bern’s body stiffened with fear, “Douglas, I was wrong; please take your hand away. I remember everything.”
“Such a tease, pretending to fool me.”
Yahi Bern wrapped his arms around Shuichang’s waist, feeling as though he had no bones, “Douglas, please rub my back.”
Shuichang thoroughly massaged Yahi Bern, who purred contentedly in the warm sunshine. Before long, he had dozed off again.
Shuichang chuckled softly as they continued their leisurely journey, both wrapped in each other’s warmth.
Yahi Bern woke again, this time from hunger. He caught the scent of something delicious and opened his eyes to find that night had fallen.
As he stepped out of the carriage, he was greeted by waves that were deeper than the night itself. The moon hung above, reflected on the surface of the sea, shimmering with the gentle rise and fall of the water.
Shuichang had found some wood and set up a small fire by the shore, with a pot suspended above it; the aroma wafted from the pot.
“Douglas.” Yahi Bern, feeling soft and limp from sleep, nestled against Shuichang as they both stared at the pot roasting over the fire.
“Are you awake? Are you hungry?” Shuichang leaned down to kiss his forehead.
Yahi Bern nodded, resting half of his weight against Shuichang, “Mm, Douglas, what did you make? It smells so good!”
Shuichang stirred the soup in the pot with a spoon, “This is seafood soup. While you were napping in the afternoon, I caught some fish, shrimp, and sea cucumbers from the sea.”
Yahi Bern sat upright in surprise, “You went into the sea?” Those could only be found in the waters or on the sea floor.
“No, you know dark mages have many odd spells. I merely controlled them to come out on their own.”
Yahi Bern was in awe, “You’re really amazing! Unlike me, who can only heal and purge impurities, I can’t even perform offensive spells.”
Shuichang chuckled, poking Yahi Bern’s nose playfully, “Aren’t you satisfied with that? From now on, I will handle the killing, and you can focus on healing. I guarantee the entire Hughes continent will love and hate us.”
Unable to contain his laughter, Yahi Bern suddenly recalled something, “You’ve been out for so long; won’t the Dark Empire be a mess without someone managing it?”
“Pope Lucius I meets many people and handles many affairs every day, while I only treat people and save lives.”
“Little fool, he has sidelined you. Not to worry; once I take the Holy See, I will use it as a dowry for you.”
“What dowry…” Yahi Bern blushed and turned away, “You still haven’t answered my last question.”
“With such a vast empire, there are many officials. If the Dark Empire falls into chaos just because I’m gone for a few days, then they really have no need to stay in their positions. Yahi, as the ruler of a nation, doesn’t need to do everything personally. But you, Yahi, are different. I want to pursue you myself. I want to be a good man for you.”
“Douglas,” Yahi Bern hugged Shuichang, moved, “I really like you. Your kindness toward me surpasses everything in this world. I will treat you well in the future.”
Shuichang held back a laugh, “Are you confessing your love to me?”
Yahi Bern’s face turned red as he nodded, “Douglas Gale, I love you.”
“Sweetheart, listen.” Shuichang had Yahi Bern lean his ear against his chest, “It beats for you.”
Yahi Bern heard the most enchanting love words in the world.
“Douglas, what should I do? I love you even more than the last second.”
“Then keep going, love me more every second, and I will take care of you better every moment.”
After exchanging sweet confessions, they finished the entire pot of seafood. Yahi Bern slept through the entire day, not a hint of drowsiness remaining. Shuichang, absorbing dark elements, also felt no fatigue.
They lay on the soft beach, quietly watching the twinkling stars above.
Perhaps it was the seafood that made him feel warm, but Shuichang found his body heating up; he turned to look at Yahi Bern.
